Herald editors exaggerate the dangers of medical marijuana programs and confuse the issue of medical use with recreational use (“Reefer madness in Mass.,” March 7). The editorial compared attempts to regulate decongestant sales with medical marijuana reform. Decongestant sales were regulated to prevent drug dealers from producing methamphetamine. Medical marijuana reform is intended to help patients suffering with debilitating diseases who have a doctor’s recommendation.
Comparing cancer patients to meth dealers is a prime example of the “reefer madness” that seems to impact Herald editors when considering this issue.
